Android 5.1 teased by Google again, this time in Android One for Philippines announcement

After first teasing Android 5.1 on an Indonesian site for Android One, Google again hinted at the unannounced update today.

On its official Asia Pacific blog, Google today revealed that Android One devices will launch in the Philippines in the coming weeks. The first phones that’ll launch there are the Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone Uno. The two phones feature the following specs:

  • 4.5-inch 854x480 display
  • 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor
  • 4GB of storage in the MyPhone Uno, 8GB in Cherry Mobile One
  • microSD card slot
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Dual SIM
  • 5-megapixel rear, 2-megapixel front cameras
  • 1700mAh battery
  • Android Lollipop

What’s interesting about Google’s announcement is that the official image included with it shows the two phones with “5:10” in their status bars. Google has long used the time in their device press images to hint at what version of Android they’re running, like “4:40” for Android 4.4. Since these devices show “5:10,” it suggests that they’re running Android 5.1.

There’s still no word on exactly what goodies are included with Android 5.1, but considering that the newest version that’s currently available is Android 5.0.2, there could be a notable new feature or two packed in there. With these new Android One phones slated to launch in the coming weeks, we may soon find out more about Google’s latest flavor of Android.
