Qualcomm enlists LG, Motorola, Microsoft, and more to tout Snapdragon 810 performance

The Snapdragon 810 has been in the news a lot lately, and not because it’s put up impressive benchmark scores or because it’s in a shiny new flagship. Actually, the opposite is true. Today Qualcomm is trying to fight back against the negativity by enlisting several major device makers.

Qualcomm today issued a press release touting that it’s Snapdragon 810 processor is slated to power more than 60 premium model devices. The company also tapped executives from major mobile firms like LG, Xiaomi, Motorola, Sony, Oppo, and Microsoft to back Qualcomm’s latest high-end chipset.

"The LG Flex 2 is designed to represent a new class of innovation at the premium tier with the dynamically curved design, a richer feature set and faster performance than the previous generation," said Chris Yie, VP and head of marketing in LG’s mobile division. "With an advanced feature set and stunning multimedia support, the Snapdragon 810 provides us with a tremendous foundation to enable the most advanced mobile experiences for consumers."

Similar statements were given by execs like Motorola COO Rick Osterloh and Juha Kokkonen, manager of Microsoft’s product portfolio. What’s interesting is that neither of those companyies have announced any products that feature the Snapdragon 810, hinting that they could be prepping some new smartphones or tablets powered by the 810.

With reports suggesting that Samsung, one of the biggest mobile device makers in the world, decided not to include the Snapdragon 810 in its upcoming flagship smartphone because of issues that cropped up in testing, it’s no surprise that Qualcomm is working to get some good attention on its new processor. Qualcomm is a major player in the mobile space, and it wants both device makers and consumers to invest in Snapdragon products so that it can continue to be big in mobile.
