Virgin Mobile Data Done Right plans offer no-contract data sharing

Shareable data plans seem to be all the rage lately in mobile. Several big carriers offer plans that let you split a single bucket of megabytes between multiple lines, and now the prepaid operators are getting in on the action as well.

Virgin Mobile announced today that it will launch three Data Done Right no-contract data share plans on January 17. The plans, which will be available exclusively at Walmart, will allow Virgin Mobile customers to split data between three lines and even manage their data sharing from their devices using a special app.

All three Virgin Mobile Data Done Right plans include unlimited talk and text, and mobile hotspot. The base plan is $65 per month for two lines and includes 4GB of 3G and 4G LTE data. The $90 plan covers three lines and includes 8GB of data, and the $115 plan includes 12GB of data that can be split between four lines. Additional data can be added, starting at $10 for 1GB. Virgin Mobile also notes that each new line will require a $20 starter kit to activate, but each kit will include two months worth of unlimited music streaming that won't count against your data allotment.

It’s worth noting that these Data Done Right plans will be compatible with four phones at launch: the HTC Desire 510, LG Tribute, LG Volt, and Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. More devices will be added at the end of February.

Additionally, customers can pay $5 more per month to exempt select apps from their data usage. Some of those apps include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pandora.

Virgin Mobile’s also got a pair of single-line prepaid plans launching at Walmart. The $35 plan includes 300 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data, and 2.5GB of high-speed data, while the $45 plan changes the minute allotment from 300 to an unlimited bucket.
