LG Display shows off 6-inch smartphone display with two bent sides

Following Samsung’s debut of the Galaxy Note Edge that features a curved screen on one of its sides, it appears that LG is planning to one-up its rival.

LG Display is showing off a prototype device at CES 2015 with a screen that bends on both sides. The 6-inch panel is of the Active Bending OLED variety, has a 1280x720 resolution, and a 0.7mm thickness. The software running on the device is LG’s skinned version of Android.

LG’s display with two bent sides looks pretty cool, especially when you see the curved app icons. The question is, how usable with a real device with two bent sides on its display on each side be? It might be something you’d adjust to, but I’m betting that you’d have to really adjust your smartphone usage habits to avoid accidentally tapping the curved screens. Unfortunately, it’s unclear exactly when we’ll get to really put this display to the test, because LG Display hasn’t yet decided when it’ll go into mass production.
