There have been a number of new flagship smartphones announced over the past month or so, including models from Apple, Samsung and Motorola/Verizon. Today Oppo entered the fray with a new flagship of its own.
The Oppo N3 is the follow-up to the Oppo N1, which feature a swiveling 13-megapixel camera. The N3 features a swiveling camera that can rotate 206 degrees as well, but the N3’s shooter has a couple of noteworthy upgrades.
First of all, the Oppo N3’s rotating camera is motorized. You can control it with on-screen gestures, Oppo’s O-Click 2.0 remote or with touch. The N3’s camera has also been bumped up to a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, up from the 13-megapixel sensor in the N1, and it includes a tracking focus feature for keeping a lock on your subject.
Another new feature that’s found in the Oppo N3 is its Touch Access fingerprint reader. The reader can remember up to five different fingerprints and can be used for unlocking the phone, scrolling and accessing specific apps and features.
So what about the N3’s straight-up specs? Well, it’s got a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display, which is down from the N1’s 5.9-inch screen. There were definitely some folks that felt that the N1’s 5.9-inch screen was a bit too large, so Oppo responded by shrinking the display on the N3.
Also packed into the N3’s 8.7mm-thick frame is a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 3000mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, dual SIM support and Oppo’s ColorOS 2.0 user interface, which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat. Oppo is also throwing in a VOOC mini Rapid Charger that can give your N3 two hours of talk time in five minutes or 75 percent battery capacity in 30 minutes.
The Oppo N3 looks like a nice successor to the N1. The screen is smaller but is still firmly in phablet territory, which should please those folks that found the N1 to be too large, and it’s also got upgraded internals that’ll help it to hang with most other 2014 flagships. And for you notification light fans, Oppo has included a double-sided Skyline Notification 2.0 light in the N3.
