Vertu Aster is the latest luxury Android with a 4.7-inch 1080p display, $6,900 starting price

If there’s one word that the Vertu brand is most associated with, it’s luxury. If there’s a second, it’s expensive. The company creates Android smartphones with premium materials and price tags that can reach as high as $11,000. Today the folks at Vertu introduced their newest Android phone, and as expected, it’s not cheap.

The Vertu Aster starts at £4,200 / $6,900, which’ll get you a calf leather model in black, blue or pink. Stepping up to £5,600 / $9,100 will net you a snake skin model in black or orange, and moving up to £5,900 / $9,700 will get you the top-end variant, which features ostrich skin in brown or purple.

So what kind of device do you get for that kind of cash? Here’s the Vertu Aster’s full spec rundown:

  • 4.7-inch 1920x1080 display with sapphire crystal
  • 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor
  • 13-megapixel rear, 2.1-megapixel front cameras
  • 64GB of storage
  • Front stereo speakers
  • Qi-compatible wireless charging
  • 2275mAh battery
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • NFC support
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Custom Vertu apps like Life for access to invitation-only events and private clubs, Certainty for security and Concierge for 24-hour assistance for finding events and gifts

While the Vertu Aster isn’t a bad phone by any means, many folks would likely argue that its specs aren’t worth its price tag. The phone itself isn’t all that you’re paying for when you shell out thousands of dollars for a Vertu, though, as you’re also ponying up for Vertu’s suite of services and its luxury brand.

What do you think of the Vertu Aster? If you had the cash, would you buy one?
