Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge make their official debut [UPDATED]

Here it is, folks. Samsung’s next big thing — literally — is now official.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has been officially announced as Sammy’s next flagship device. I’m sure you’re interested in knowing exactly what features Samsung chose to include in its new Note smartphone, so let’s dive right in:

  • 5.7-inch 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display
  • 2.7GHz quad-core processor or 1.9GHz octa-core processor
  • 16-megapixel pixel with optical image stabilization
  • 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera, f/1.9 lens
  • 32GB storage, microSD card slot
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 153.5 x 78.6 x 8.5mm
  • 3220mAh battery
  • Fast charging that can take you from 0 percent to 50 percent charge level in around 30 minutes
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Charcoal Black, Frost White, Bronze Gold and Blossom Pink
Samsung has also improved its S Pen stylus that comes with the Galaxy Note 4. The new S Pen features increased sensitivity for better accuracy as well as some new features. Smart Select allows you to capture several images or pieces of text and then drop them all into an email or text message. You’ll also be able to use the S Pen as a mouse to select multiple items or pieces of text at once.
Design-wise, the Galaxy Note 4 looks like a combination of the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Alpha. It’s got the same basic shape and faux leather backside as the Note 3, but it also includes the metal outer edge found on Samsung’s new Alpha.
The Samsung Galaxy Note will launch in October. Images of all four colors are available in the gallery at the bottom of this post.
Samsung also introduced a new member of the Galaxy Note family today. The Galaxy Note Edge features a Galaxy Note 4-like body, but one side of the unit includes a curved display on its side for displaying additional info. Here’s the full rundown on the Galaxy Edge:
  • 5.6-inch 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display
  • 160 pixels on the side Edge screen
  • 2.7GHz quad-core processor
  • 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization
  • 3.7-megapixel front camera with f/1.9 lens
  • 32GB, 64GB of storage
  • microSD card slot
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 151.3 x 82.4 x 8.3mm
  • 3000mAh battery
  • Fast Charging tech
  • Charcoal Black and Frost White color options
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
Of course, Samsung touted several of the ways that you can take advantage of the Edge display on its new Note family member. The Edge screen can hold your frequently-used apps and also includes basic tools like a flashlight, stopwatch, voice recorder and more. As you’d expect, it can display notifications as well, saving you from having to dive into your main notifications panel to view your alerts.
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will be sold in “select markets” later in 2014.
UPDATE: Several U.S. carriers have pinged us with their plans for these new Samsung products: AT&T plans to offer the Note 4, Note Edge, Gear S and Gear Circle; T-Mobile will sell the Note 4, Note Edge and Gear Circle; Verizon will sell the Note 4, Note Edge, Gear Circle, and Gear VR; and Sprint will offer the Note 4.
