I'm excited for the Nexus X all over again

One of the first things that you learn, rather quickly, as you watch the smartphone market get inundated with leaks and rumors, is to not believe any of them right from the start. It sounds easy, but as you've probably all seen at some point or another, if the rumors and leaks keep happening, it just becomes the truth even before an official announcement is made.

If you hear something once or twice, then it's pretty easy to dismiss. However, if the information keeps cropping up, and other pieces of information even indirectly start to make it all seem possible, if not probable, then it gets a bit harder. Because while some leaks are inaccurate, and many rumors are false, most of them are actually pretty accurate.

For instance, just look at the next iPhone. This year is one of those years that if Apple doesn't announce a 4.7-inch iPhone, there may not be only be loud people yelling on the internet, but I would also bet that Apple's just trolling everyone. That's how much a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is expected this year. It's not anywhere near official by any means, and yet that's just what's going to happen, because the constant leaks have essentially demanded it.

The leaks and rumors regarding a device coming from Motorola, something that's been a longtime coming, in fact, haven't been as common as those for the iPhone 6, but they're at a healthy number by now. Just at the end of July there was a big focus on the next Nexus smartphone, with two separate reports confirming there's a device coming that features a pretty big screen.

Since then, there have been other, smaller rumors, and they've all hinted at a device that will boast a screen measuring somewhere around 5.9-inches. Which makes sense, considering quite a few reports suggested it would be called the Nexus 6 (it's also the sixth iteration of the Nexus smartphone, so that could have something to do with it). However, that's changed a bit in the last couple of days, as new leaks have suggested that the Nexus X (a name change, too) could be the final name for the codenamed "Shamu" handset, and that it will actually feature a 5.2-inch display.

Riding the rumor train means a lot of ups and downs, and anything can change (because it's all just tossed around anyway) at a moment's notice. That's why,  despite the fact that earlier this month I wasn't all that interested in what the leaks were showing me with the Nexus X, I've begun to change my mind. Based on these new pieces of information, the next Nexus smartphone is back on my radar, and I'm once again looking forward to seeing it get announced and released.

Of course, there's quite a bit of time between now and when the device gets officially unveiled, so it could all change again. And, to be honest, I'm kind of expecting the device to be huge, since that's the trend these days. There's a part of me that knows I'm probably going to be disappointed down the road, and that still, this may be the first Nexus smartphone I don't pick up, but I'm going to hold onto some hope.

If the Nexus X launches with a 5.9-inch display, will that be a reason for you to pick it up, or will that be a deal breaker? Let me know.
