Glenn Lurie taking reins at AT&T Mobility as new CEO

Sprint isn’t the only major U.S. carrier getting itself a new CEO this month, as AT&T has promoted Glenn Lurie as the new president and CEO of AT&T Mobility. Lucie previously served as the head of AT&T Mobility’s Emerging Enterprises and Partnerships division.

Former AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega will now take the reigns as CEO of AT&T’s Mobile & Business Solutions Group. That group is the result of a merger of AT&T’s Mobility and Business Solutions teams.

Getting back to Lurie, FierceWireless notes that he’s been with AT&T for some time and actually helped work with Apple to make the original iPhone an AT&T exclusive in 2007. Lurie has also helped AT&T to push connected car and tablet offerings. So while we don’t yet know what kind of impact Lurie will have on AT&T, it’s clear that he’s got some wireless chops.
