Sprint App Pass subscription service to offer access to select apps and games for $4.99 per month

Along with its announcement of the Sharp Aquos Crystal, Sprint today introduced a new Android service known as “App Pass.”

As its name suggests, App Pass gives users unlimited access to select apps and games for $4.99 per month. App Pass works across two devices, and users are also given a $5 credit each month to spend on in-app purchases. A 14-day free trial is available. Sprint also says that the app will be available to supported devices under the "Apps" tab of the Sprint Zone app and also from its website.

App Pass will be preinstalled on all Sprint Android phones starting Aug. 29. The storefront will include games from Gameloft and Oceanhouse Media as well as offerings like OfficeSuite 7 Pro, Camera Zoom FX and Minuum Keyboard, with more apps and games getting added “regularly.”

App Pass sounds like an interesting way for consumers to try out a bunch of apps that they normally may not be willing to drop several dollars on. Of course, the downside is that once you stop paying your $5 monthly access fee, you’ll likely lose the ability to use these apps.

What do you think of App Pass? Would you sign up for it if your carrier offered a similar service?
