The streaming music war has been heating up lately, with Apple snapping up Beats Music, Microsoft offering Xbox Music, Google launching Play Music All Access and Spotify being a major player on its own. Rumors of a YouTube music service have been swirling for a while now, and today details on that offering have become more clear thanks to a new leak.
The folks at Android Police have gotten word that YouTube Music Key will be the name of YouTube’s music service. The offering is expected to include more than 20 million tracks for ad-free streaming for use on mobile, tablets, desktops and TVs, an audio-only mode for use in the background and offline playback.
In addition to basic music streaming, YouTube Music Key will reportedly leverage its video background to offer concert footage, remixes, covers and more.
YouTube Music Key is expected to include a free 30-day trial, after which pricing will be set at $9.99 per month. That price may include both YouTube Music Key and Google Play Music Key, the latter of which is said to be the new branding for what we know of as Google Play Music All Access.
We’ll have to wait for YouTube Music Key to launch before we get the full picture of it, but so far it sounds like an interesting offering. It takes the standard music streaming offering that most other services has but adds on top of it easy access to concert footage and other goodies that can enhance the music fandom experience.
