iPad Air 2 rear shell purportedly shown off in leaked photos

Apple is almost certainly going to release an updated version of its flagship tablet, the iPad Air, later this year. The question is, what will it look like?

A user on Chinese social network Weibo claims to know the answer to that question. Photos posted to the site show what’s said to be the rear shell of the iPad Air 2, and unsurprisingly, it doesn’t look all that different from the current iPad Air.

A few differences that are worth noting with this iPad Air 2 shell include redesigned speaker holes on its bottom and recessed volume buttons on its side. There’s also a microphone hole next to the cutout for the rear camera.

Apple took the wraps off of the original iPad Air in late October 2013, so it seems likely that we’ll see an updated model around that same time this year. And since Apple just released the first iteration of the iPad Air last year, I doubt that it’ll much with the design too much for the 2014 model. One other big change that’s expected with the iPad Air 2 is the addition of Touch ID, which made its debut on the iPhone 5s and is likely to spread to other iOS devices in 2014.
