LG G3 Beat / LG G3 s officially introduced as 'compact' version of LG G3 flagship

After leaking out a couple of times in recent weeks, it appears that the shrunken version of the LG G3 is finally here.

LG just took the wraps off of the LG G3 Beat, which it describes as “a mid-tier variant” of the LG G3. The LG G3 Beat offers a design similar to its flagship sibling and also includes the same Laser Auto Focus feature on its backside.

Unfortunately for anyone hoping for a high-end LG G3 mini, that’s where the similarities end. The LG G3 Beat packs a fairly mid-range spec list:

  • 5-inch 1280x720 display
  • 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor
  • 8-megapixel rear camera with Laser Auto Focus
  • 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter
  • 8GB storage
  • microSD card slot
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 2540mAh battery
  • 4G LTE/21Mbps HSPA+
  • 137.7 x 69.6 x 10.3mm
  • Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold colors
  • Android 4.4.2 with custom LG features like Smart Keyboard and Gesture Shot
The LG G3 Beat will launch in South Korea on July 18 and will arrive in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in the following weeks. It’s also worth noting that in Europe and the CIS, the LG G3 Beat will be known as the “LG G3 s.”
While there’s no “mini” in its name, the LG G3 Beat certainly looks to be LG’s mini version of its G3 flagship. And while it’s nice that consumers hunting for a mid-range device will be able to pick up the Beat and get a device that looks an feels similar to the G3, I’m sure that there are more than a few folks that are bummed that there aren’t flagship-level specs packed into the Beat’s 10.3mm-thick frame.
