Verizon Edge upgrade program now includes Android and iOS tablets

After retooling its Edge upgrade program to allow for upgrades every 30 days, Verizon is tweaking Edge once again today.

Verizon now allows consumers to buy tablets using its Edge upgrade program. For example, the upcoming Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is available for $499.99 with a 2-year contract, $599.99 full price of 20 monthly Edge payments of $29.99 each. Verizon Edge isn’t limited to Android tablets, as Apple’s iPad hardware is also eligible for the program. The 16GB iPad Air is priced at $529.99 with a 2-year commitment, $629.99 full retail or 20 monthly Edge payments of $31.49 each.

Verizon Edge lets consumers split the full cost of a device up into 20 payments rather than pony it up all at once. Anyone that’s enrolled in the program can trade in their existing Edge device for a new one after waiting 30 days and paying at least 60 percent of the hardware’s price.

The Verizon Edge program may not be for everyone, but it does give folks another way to buy a new phone or tablet without having to pay hundreds of dollars upfront. It’s nice to see Verizon open Edge to tablets for that very reason.

Have any of you enrolled in one of the upgrade programs offered by the big four U.S. carriers?
