AT&T and T-Mobile agree to trade AWS and PCS spectrum

After failing to get together and form AT&T-Mobile in 2011, AT&T and T-Mobile are once again attempting to strike a deal. This time, though, the goal is much smaller.

A Federal Communications Commission filing has revealed that AT&T and T-Mobile have agreed to swap some AWS and PCS spectrum in 10 states. Those are:

  • Texas
  • Missouri
  • Kansas
  • Florida
  • California
  • Washington
  • Louisiana
  • Georgia
  • Pennsylvania
  • Kentucky

Part of the spectrum that AT&T is giving up is a result of AT&T's acquisition of Leap Wireless, which required Ol' Blue to divest spectrum in several markets. Details of the deal aren't known, so it's unclear if the two carriers exchanged cash in addition to the spectrum. The deal requires FCC approval before the spectrum can officially be swapped.
