We haven’t heard much about Google’s Open Automotive Alliance ever since it was announced back in January, but that completely changed today with the debut of Android Auto.
As its name suggests, Android Auto is a version of Google’s mobile OS that’s meant for use in vehicles. When in an Android Auto car, you can cast your phone to the auto’s display and use it to play music, control voice navigation and compose messages using your voice.
Google says that Android Auto is compatible with the controls in a car. Additionally, the Android Auto experience will get better as users get better hardware and software.
Android Auto for users will arrive alongside the public launch of Android L later this year. The first Android Auto vehicles are expected to begin rolling off lots by the end of 2014.
