When Google first announced Android Wear, it named several partners that’d already signed on to produce hardware for the platform. LG and Motorola were included in that group, and we know that they’re cranking out the G Watch and Moto 360, respectively. One company that’s remained relatively quiet when it comes to Android Wear is Samsung, but apparently that’ll soon change.
According to sources speaking to CNET, Samsung will introduce an Android Wear smartwatch at Google I/O next week. Details of the device are unknown, but it’s said that Samsung has been tinkering with wearables powered by both its own Exynos chips as well as processors from Qualcomm. Whatever the device is, it’s possible that it could be given out to I/O attendees.
Samsung is already a pretty big player in the wearables game thanks to its Gear line of smartwatches, so it’s no surprise that the firm is prepping an Android Wear device as well. It’ll be interesting to see what the Samsung wearable looks like and how close a resemblance it bears to Samsung’s existing Gear hardware.
Sources of this report also say that LG and Motorola may show off their own Android Wear gear at Google I/O. Both the LG G Watch and Motorola Moto 360 have been teased quite a bit at this point, but neither device has a concrete release date. Here’s to hoping that that changes next week.
