As sure as the night follows the day, we're going to see leaks and hear rumors about flagship devices. It's inevitable. They don't even have to be accurate! In fact, more often than not, they aren't. Sometimes they're almost accurate. But, it isn't until we get really close to an impending announcement that they generally start to make any sense.
The same could probably be said for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 4. This particular phablet lineup has become one of the most popular lineages under the Samsung crest, so there's a lot of expectation when it comes to the next device to fill out the line. And rightfully so. The Galaxy Note 3 was a success, with plenty of great features inside of a device that saw only subtle design cue changes. So, perhaps rightfully so, fans of the Galaxy Note phablet family are hoping for a big launch this year.
The Rumor Mill isn't helping at all in this case. It's only making the wait harder.
There's been a lot of talk about the display, and there's been a lot of talk about the specs underneath the hood. The rumors and leaks have been all over the place, pretty much, over the months since the release of the Galaxy Note 3 late in 2013. Most recently we started hearing about a Galaxy Note 4 that could boast a display that's curved along the edges, so that you don't even have to pick up the phone to see notifications.
The one thing that's been talked about so much is the display's resolution, which is rumored to be 2560x1440. It's also supposed to measure in at 5.7-inches, which means you'd have a pretty big, bold and beautiful display in front of your eyes while you're watching your videos. Unless Samsung launches their newest variant of the Galaxy S5, which boasts a QHD display of its own, it looks like the Galaxy Note 4 could be the first device in Samsung's portfolio to land in the United States with that particular display type.
New (and old) rumors suggest that one of the variants will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood, and a new camera system in the back -- even if it's still a 16MP shooter. Basically, the Galaxy Note 4 is going to be a powerhouse device if the rumors pan out, and so we've just got to wait to see what Samsung does with features baked into the software.
As I look forward to devices this year, it's becoming increasingly clear to me that the next Galaxy Note phablet is one of my most highly anticipated devices of the year. I want this handset to launch already. I want to see what it looks like, and I want to see the features it has. I want to know what Samsung has done to improve the S Pen. I just want to see it already!
