AT&T: LG Optimus G Pro getting Android 4.4 KitKat update

Much of the recent LG news has been focused on the upcoming G3, but today I’ve got some exciting news for folks that are already a part of the Life’s Good crew.

AT&T announced today that starting today, May 21, it’s pushing an over the air update to the LG Optimus G Pro. The update bumps the Optimus G Pro up to Android 4.4 and includes restyled status and navigation bars, battery performance improvements and more. Here’s AT&T’s full list of changes:

  • Restyled status and navigation bars
  • New full-screen mode
  • Stronger security
  • Battery performance improvements
  • Google Cloud Printer support
  • Enhanced processing speed

The update is a beefy one, weighing in at around 700MB-800MB, so you may want to connect to Wi-Fi before trying to pull it from the sky. Just in case you’re feeling impatient, though, it’s worth noting that AT&T says that the update “will not count against your data usage.”

The LG Optimus G Pro isn’t exactly the freshest Android phone on the block, having launched on AT&T a little over a year ago and since having been replaced by the LG G Pro 2. Its owners aren’t being forgotten, though, and it’s great to see AT&T and LG treating those folks to a tasty KitKat snack.

If you’re rocking an AT&T-branded Optimus G Pro, you can manually check for this update by heading into Settings > General > About phone > Software update > Update now. Don’t forget to come back once you get it installed so that you can share your first impressions!
