Looks like it’s my turn to tell you guys what phone I’ve got in my pocket these days! This time last year, I was still faithfully carrying my iPhone 4S, but now that it’s a whole year later, I can safely say that this is no longer valid information. If you’ve been keeping up with my articles lately, you probably know that I’ve been carrying a Motorola Moto X for the past couple of months. Today, I’m going to talk a bit about why I carry the Moto X.
The Moto X caught my attention for a few reasons. At first, before the phone was even released, I was mostly spiteful towards the device. I didn’t like the idea of “always on” sensors, regardless of reason. I was also pretty disappointed in the initial price of the phone. However, as time went on both of the issues I had with the Moto X no longer seemed like issues anymore. The price had dropped to a more reasonable price (I bought mine when it was on sale for $330) and the always on sensors (Touchless Controls) actually ended up contributing to some of the features I dig most about the phone.
It was also pretty cool that I could somewhat design the phone myself. I actually went with a really vanilla design: plain white with a woven white back. My phone's single defining feature is the signature on the back, “Swiggity Swooty”.
Aside from Touchless Control, there are two other features that I love about the Moto X: Motorola Connect and Active Display. Motorola Connect lets me text from my computer via a Chrome extension, which makes things a lot easier for me when it comes to getting work done on the computer; it actually ends up saving me a lot of time and keeps me more focused. As for Active Display, well... I guess I just never thought that I would appreciate something as simple as not having to press my power button to wake my phone up every time I want to check the time. It’s a small but simple feature that really enhances the overall experience of using this device.
The Moto X might not be anything spectacular when it comes to specs, but the price, size, and features have won me over when it comes to choosing the Moto X as my daily driver. It’s just one of those phones that works best for me right now, even if it's not the most popular choice these days.
