Looks like we’ve got another Nokia codename to add to the list of rumored devices.
A new report from The Verge claims to have details on an upcoming Nokia phone codenamed “Superman.” According to the site’s sources, the Superman will be a selfie-centric device with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It’s also said that the Superman will sport a 4.7-inch display. This mid-range handset is expected to debut near the end of 2014.
One feature that has been a highlight on several flagship Nokia Windows Phones to date is the rear camera, but we haven’t really seen Nokia place a focus on the front-facing shooter. Because of Nokia’s heavy focus on photography to date, the Superman ought to be an interesting device, and it’s one that all of the selfie lovers out there will likely want to keep an eye out for.
Today’s leak also offers up some details on other upcoming Microsoft/Nokia hardware. The “Goldfinger” is a handset that we’ve heard about in the past and is expected to feature a unique “3D Touch” feature that can detect gestures that don’t involve the user touching the phone’s glass. Unfortunately, those gestures have caused the device itself to be delayed a bit, as support for the features have been pushed back to a future Windows Phone 8.1 update.
Microsoft is reportedly also testing two more Windows Phone 8.1 devices alongside the Goldfinger. However, there’s not much detail about this pair of phones, and it’s not even known if they’ll feature any Nokia logos.
Finally, today’s report claims that Microsoft is prepping two Windows Phone 8.1 updates for release later this year. The updates are expected to be pushed out alongside new phones but will also be released to existing hardware. The first update is currently slated to arrive in June, while the second is expected to launch alongside the aforementioned Superman later in 2014.
