Samsung ATIV SE, Galaxy S5 now available for pre-order from Verizon

We already know the Samsung ATIV SE pretty well at this point, not only because it's leaked out on several different occasions, but also because it's basically just a Galaxy S 4 that's running Windows Phone 8 instead of Android. Still, it's always exciting when a new phone packs up its things and moves from Rumorville to Officialtown, and today that's precisely what the ATIV SE has done.

Verizon today quietly added the Samsung ATIV SE to its online shop and began accepting pre-orders for its newest Windows Phone. As expected, the ATIV SE is fairly similar to the Android-powered Galaxy S 4, both in terms of design and specs. The ATIV SE's official spec rundown looks like this:

  • 5-inch 1080p display
  • 2.3GHz quad-core processor
  • 13-megapixel rear, 2-megapixel front cameras
  • 16GB storage, microSD card slot
  • 2GB RAM
  • 2600mAh battery
  • 4G LTE, global GSM (HSPA 850/900/1900/2100MHz) connectivity
  • Windows Phone 8

Yes, the ATIV SE is indeed running Windows Phone 8, not the new Windows Phone 8.1 update that was announced earlier this week. Considering its newness and the fact that all WP8 devices are upgradeable to WP8.1, though, I'm sure that we'll see the ATIV SE get bumped up to Windows Phone 8.1 at some point in the future.

As for pricing and availability, the ATIV SE is now available for pre-order from Verizon at a price of $199.99 with a two-year commitment or $599.99 full retail. New orders are expected to ship by April 12.

Verizon today also began accepting pre-orders for its flavor of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Verizon's version of the new Sammy flagship is similar to all of the other models in that it features a 5.1-inch 1080p display, 16-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 16GB storage, a microSD card slot, 2GB of RAM and a 2800mAh battery. The Android 4.4-powered device also packs in 4G LTE and global GSM (HSPA 850/900/1900/2100MHz) connectivity.

Pricing for the Verizon Galaxy S5 is set at $199.99 with a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate or $599.99 full retail. New orders of the Verizon-branded S5 are slated to ship by April 11.

It's also worth noting that Verizon is still running the same buy one, get one promo that it launched with the HTC One (M8). As part of the deal, customers that purchase an HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5 or Samsung ATIV S with a two-year contract can pick up another one of those three devices for free on a two-year commitment.
