Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone officially available for download

It's that time once again, Windows Phone users. Yes, it's time to cross another name off of the list of major apps missing from your platform. The latest addition to the Land of Live Tiles? Facebook Messenger.

A little over a week after Microsoft announced that Facebook Messenger would be coming to Windows Phone, the official app has landed on the Windows Phone Store's virtual shelves. The app includes support for regular ol' messaging as well as group chats, location sharing, stickers and private photos. Also included is an option to turn off notifications for when you need some alone time. The full list of features named by Facebook is as follows:

Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).

Features:

  • Get to all your messages without having to open Facebook.
  • Bring your conversations to life with stickers and send photos privately.
  • Have group conversations and make plans on the go.
  • Share your location so people know when you're nearby.
  • Know when people have seen your messages.
  • See who's using Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
  • Stay logged in so you never miss a message.
  • Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
  • Never lose your conversation history or contacts.

This official Facebook Messenger app looks right at home on Windows Phone, sporting a Microsoft design language that includes chat bubbles that are similar of Windows Phone's own Messaging app. And while it's unlikely that every single Windows Phone user out there will download and use Facebook Messenger, I'm sure that most will at least appreciate having another major app hit their platform.
