Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 arriving in mid-March with Android 4.3, $449.99 price tag

Samsung helped us to ring in the new year by announcing its new Galaxy Camera 2 back on Jan. 2, and while the company was eager to tell us all about the device's 16.3-megapixel camera and 4.8-inch touchscreen, two details that it didn't share were the GC2's pricing and release date. Fast-forward to today and Samsung has finally decided to fill in those holes.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 will officially launch in mid-March at a price of $449.99. In exchange for their hard-earned $450, buyers will be getting an Android 4.3-powered shooter that includes a 16.3-megapixel sensor with a 21x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization, 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a microSD slot for additional memory. Powering the Galaxy Camera 2 is a 2000mAh battery.

On the software side of things, Samsung will preload its Galaxy Camera 2 with a number of special features to help users capture better photos. The device will sport 28 SMART modes, including 13 new options, as well as features like Tag & Go and Photo Beam to make sharing images with other devices easy.

While many folks now rely on their smartphone for most, if not all, of their photo-taking needs, there are still some people that prefer having a dedicated camera at their side. The Galaxy Camera 2 could be worth a look for shutterbugs that also happen to love Android or just want to be able to easily share their photos, both with other people and on social networks. If your interest has been piqued by the Galaxy Camera 2 but you're still unsure if you're ready to plunk down $450 for one of your own, you can see the shooter in action by watching out hands-on video below.

In addition to announcing the availability details of the Galaxy Camera 2, Samsung today also revealed its launch plans for the mirrorless NX30. The camera is available starting today for a cool $999.99, which will net consumers a shooter with a 20.3-megapixel sensor, 3-inch Super AMOLED Swivel and Touch display, SMART Modes like Beauty Face and Macro and an SD card slot.
