All right then, we've just passed the mid-point of the first month of 2014, which means we're just about to be in the thick of it. The year's new, and we've got so much ahead of us that it's pretty exciting. A lot's going to change, and plenty is going to stay the same. There's still a lot unknown, but one thing's for sure: We're going to see a lot of cool stuff this year, from manufacturers headquartered all around the globe.
There's another detail that we can pretty much assume is true: There will be a lot of new Android-based devices, from smartphones to smartwatches, with plenty of tablets sprinkled around for good measure. Google's mobile operating system isn't going to go into the night quietly. We'll continue to see the little green 'droid popping up here and there throughout the year, on a wide range of devices.
Hopefully, we see more impressive devices than we do lame ducks.
Why wouldn't we, right? It's been several years since Android first erupted on the scene, and since then our devices have improved exponentially. What we thought was impossible only a few years ago is now common practice. We have ridiculously powerful processors inside our phones and tablets; we've got high-definition displays showing us our favorite content; and we've got cameras that can rival some stand-alone shooters out there. I don't think any one of us would be in the wrong to think that this year is going to hold far more impressive things than ever before.
With that in mind, looking ahead could possibly be pretty daunting. Unlike years before, 2014 has the potential to see an avalanche of high-end, worthwhile devices hit the market that aren't just from the major manufacturers we've grown to expect. Just, right at the start, there's LG, which threw the gloves down with their G2 last year, and could possibly have one of the best devices in 2014 with a true successor to that handset.
But, at the same time, we've got others that are looking to enter the U.S. market for the first time in a real, tangible way. Like Meizu, for instance. And then we've got companies like Oppo, and BLU, that are looking to gain some time in the limelight.
I know that I've asked you which company you are expecting the most out of in 2014, but that was a bit broader than what I'm curious about today. I want to know which company you think is going to make the best Android-based device this year. The one that other companies are going to look at and instantly admire and fear at the same time.
HTC's rumored to be unveiling the successor to the One this year, supposedly in late March now, and with it a pair of new, upgraded sensors for their UltraPixel-branded camera and a bigger display for good measure. Samsung? Well, rumors has it that the Galaxy S 5 will boast plenty of new features, a change to TouchWiz, and offer two variants -- one of which you may have to pay more for.
So many devices coming down the line. We've got Motorola, too, which could have a successor to their Moto X later this year. And let's not forget the device that Samsung unveils for their Galaxy Note 4 (or whatever they call it).
There are a lot of competitors, and a lot of hardware that's going to be introduced, with even more software features thrown in for good measure. But, the question is, based on what you've seen in years past and what you've hear from the Rumor Mill for what's ahead, who do you think is going to create the best Android device?
