Apple has the gold iPhone 5s, Samsung's got golden Galaxy S 4s and Galaxy Note 3s and HTC has two versions of the gold One, one of which is coated with real 18ct. gold. Notice a name missing from that list? Yep, LG has shied away from offering a gold version of a flagship device to date, but that's changing today.
A gold version of the LG G2 is now available for purchase in Taiwan, featuring the same design and rear-mounted buttons as the G2 that we've come to know in recent months, but with a decidedly more blingy backside. The device is available with either 16GB or 32GB of storage with pricing set at NT$14,900 ($496 USD) and NT$16,900 ($562 USD), respectively. Orders of the 16GB model are expected to begin shipping to their good taste-having owners on Jan. 20, while the more capacious 32GB model should begin going out on Jan. 29.
Smartphone manufacturers often re-release their flagship products in new colors to help reinvigorate interest post-launch, and so it's no surprise to see that LG has created a golden version of the G2. Some folks may have preferred a slightly more traditional color option, like red or blue, but apparently LG recognized the gold device trend that's been going on in mobile lately and decided to try and cash in on it. There's no word on when or if this gold LG G2 will make its way to other territories, so the more gold-obsessed among us will likely have to resort to importing if they really want to grow their golden handset collection.
