After teaming up with Oppo on the N1 in 2013, it appears that the CyanogenMod team has found itself a new partner for the new year. Device maker OnePlus has announced that it's teaming up with Cyanogen Inc. on its upcoming flagship Android smartphone, the OnePlus One. The CyanogenMod team will craft some custom software for the device that OnePlus says will include "specially designed features and exciting new elements."
The spec details of the OnePlus and CyanogenMod collabo-phone are still light, but OnePlus describes it as a flagship product and teases that the unit will combine CyanogenMod's software with the latest and highest-end hardware. The company also promises that the OnePlus One will be "fast, secure and beautiful." Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, teased his firm's upcoming device with the following statement:
"What’s coming is one of the most popular mobile operating systems specifically developed for the best hardware, with a unique twist. The smartphone industry is ripe for disruption, and 2014 should prove to be a huge year for the future of the market.”
There may not be many hard details about the OnePlus One available quite yet, but the fact that OnePlus is partnering with CyanogenMod on the creation of the One means that it's sure to get quite a bit of attention from the Android faithful. Thankfully we won't have to wait too long to find out exactly what makes the OnePlus One tick: the device is expected to launch in "select markets" in the first half of 2014, with expanded global availability to follow.
