Verizon confirmed last month that it plans to offer Motorola's new Moto G with its prepaid service, but the only availability detail that the big red carrier have offered so far is that it's aiming for a launch in the first quarter of 2014. That's no different today, but one thing that is new is a photo of Verizon's Moto G, complete with its retail packaging.
Posted to Google+ by user Josue Joseph, the image shows a Moto G encased in its plastic blister pack home. Joseph's profile claims that he works at a Best Buy Mobile store, and attached to the photo is the sentence "Look at what just arrived !!," suggesting that Verizon's Moto G is starting to make its way into retail stores. Joseph went on to say that he can't sell the Moto G yet and doesn't know what its launch date is, but that "it looks like it's going for $100."
The Moto G is the low-cost sibling to Motorola's flagship Moto X, packing a 4.5-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2070mAh battery. Motorola kicked off sales of the GSM Moto G in late November, meaning that any consumers that are waiting for the CDMA-ified Moto G have had to sit by and watch as their GSM buddies enjoy their new phones and an update to Android 4.4 KitKat. Here's to hoping that, now that the Verizon-flavored Moto G appears to have started infiltrating retail stores, an actual launch isn't far off.
UPDATE: Some new images have surfaced that reveal more details on the Verizon Moto G's pricing and availability. First up, the folks at Android Police have shared a photo that shows the unit on the shelf at a Best Buy, complete with a price tag of $99.99. It's worth noting that, because Verizon will be selling the Moto G with its prepaid service, that's its no contract price.
The second image comes to us from Droid-Life. It mentions that the Verizon-flavored Moto G has a "hard street date" of Jan. 9, meaning that the device may be just a little over a week away from launch. While unconfirmed for now, that'd certainly fit within the Q1 2014 launch window that Verizon has given for its Moto G variant.
