Apple CEO Tim Cook teases 'big plans' for 2014 in leaked memo

The year 2013 was a big one for Apple when it comes to new products. On the mobile side, the Cupertino firm introduced two new iPhones at once for the first time ever, debuting the flagship iPhone 5s and the more affordable iPhone 5c simultaneously. The year also brought with it a redesigned iPad, a high-res iPad mini and a completely made over version of iOS.

Over on the desktop side of things, Apple debuted a new, totally redesigned Mac Pro and offered OS X Mavericks, its new desktop operating system, for no charge. That's a lot to accomplishments to squeeze into just 357 days, but the good news for fans of Tim Cook and Co. is that that doesn't mean that the firm will be quiet in 2014.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently sent a memo to his employees that recaps all of the company's achievements in 2013 and teases what it has planned for the future. Unsurprisingly, the memo leaked out and has been posted by 9to5Mac. In it, Cook touches on all of the aforementioned product releases and goes over on the charity and relief efforts that Apple took part in during the past year. Cook wraps up the memo with a tease of what Apple has in store for 2014, saying that there's "a lot to look forward to" and that the company's got "some big plans that we think customers are going to love."

Now you may want to sit down, because this next piece of news may come as a surprise. Cook didn't elaborate on exactly what Apple's "big plans" for 2014 are, leaving us to speculate for now. Shocker, right?

Like most other major device manufacturers, Apple is rumored to be cooking up a number of new products for next year. Those include a smartwatch and new, larger versions of both the iPhone and iPad. There's no concrete evidence to show that these devices are coming in the next 12 months, but the smartwatch category did begin to mature and grow in popularity in 2013, and the year also brought with it the first simultaneous launch of two new iPhone models. Considering all of that, there's a chance that Apple could see next year as the right time to introduce wristwear of its own and expand the iPhone lineup even further to include a larger model.

Which products do you hope are a part of Apple's "big plans" for 2014?
