You might think that things in the mobile world would start to get pretty quiet as get into the thick of the holiday season and near the end of the year, but LG's not done announcing new phones in 2013 quite yet.
The Life's Good crew just took the wraps off of the LG Gx in Korea, a fresh Android smartphone that features a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display and what LG says is a "clean and minimalist design." Buried inside the LG Gx's 9.2mm-thick frame is a quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB RAM and 3140mAh battery, while the outside of the device is home to a 13-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter.
On the software side of things, LG has unsurprisingly included its own custom interface on top of Android Jelly Bean, complete with several of the same special features that we've seen on devices like the G2 and Optimus G Pro. That includes Smart Memo for taking notes, Q Remote for controlling appliances around the home and the KnockOn feature that allows users to wake the Gx by tapping on the display twice. There's also Smart Day, a feature that populates the Gx's lock screen with glanceable information related to the time, weather and the user's schedule.
The LG Gx is currently slated to launch on Korean carrier LG U+ with LTE, Voice over LTE, EV-DO and HSPA connectivity. The device looks to be a combination of LG's past couple of flagship handsets, including features like the Optimus G Pro's physical navigation buttons and a G2-esque design that includes a strip of metal on its sides to create a new G-series family member. LG hasn't made any announcements regarding Gx availability outside of Korea, so for now we'll have to settle for ogling the device in its official press images.
