Wooden Moto X teaser image posted by Motorola

When Motorola first announced the Moto X in August, one of its big selling points was the Moto Maker customization tool, which would allow customers to create a Moto X of their own by customizing the colors, boot screen message and even adding a real wood back panel. Moto Maker opened up to the AT&T Moto X in late August, then to all four major carriers in November, but one feature that's still missing to this date is the ability to make a wood-backed Moto X. Motorola has never set a concrete date for when the wood backs will go live, but the good news is that the launch may finally be near.

Motorola recently took to Google+ to post the message "Put this DIY project on hold. Trust us." along with an image of a piece of wood that features the dotted outline of the Moto X. Unfortunately for anyone that's still holding out for a wooden Moto X, Motorola didn't offer up any other details about its rollout plans for the wood customization option.

Since Motorola has never actually offered a real launch date or timeframe for the wooden Moto X backs, you can't really be angry with how long it's taking for the panels to become available, especially since something like a real wood back cover probably takes quite a bit of time to test. Still, I imagine that anyone that's still waiting for a wooden Moto X is starting to become a little frustrated, especially with the recent $150 Moto Maker discount that Motorola recently offered. The good news is that it appears that the wait for the wood-backed Moto X may finally be coming to an end. I think that the launch of the wooden Moto X would be a nice holiday gift from Motorola, don't you?
