Well then, now that I have a Christmas list out there for everyone to look at, I guess it's finally becoming clearer than ever before that 2013 is just about to call it quits on us. We had a good year in technology and mobile, didn't we? I'd like to think we did. We saw plenty of great devices get launched, some of which were good enough in some capacity or another to buck a few trends here and there, too.
This year was pretty fantastic. We did see some devices that were just minor upgrades over their predecessors, and some handsets that just weren't all that surprising in the slightest. But, if I do say so myself, the majority of devices that made their way into the limelight this year were certainly well deserving of the placement.
Everything may not be figured out for HTC quite yet, but they definitely blew the socks off the competition with their One flagship device. And then we've got Motorola and LG, both of which made some waves with the Moto X and G2, thanks to a ridiculous amount of customization and new button placement, respectively.
Then there's the Oppo N1 with its "swivel camera," which is just about the coolest thing ever. If you like cameras that swivel. Swivel all the cameras! Or are you looking for cheap? Cheap, but certainly not "cheap." (Get it?) How about Google's and LG's Nexus 5, which is a high-end beast with a mid-range price tag, all without a contract. Or there's Motorola's Moto G, which is a mid-range device with a low-end price tag. Hopefully this is a trend that we see continue into 2014.
Actually, there's a lot I want to see continue into 2014.
I loved this year when it comes to technology and mobile. Our devices are great, but we also saw both Google and Pebble put a new, shining light on the wearable technology industry, which is only going to get better as we move forward.
It's this forward progression, and the fact that we're welcoming high-end devices with small price tags, and bucking device subsidies from carriers, and every other little thing that happened this year that has me so dang excited for next year.
We're going to see the HTC One successor soon, and we're also going to see some design changes from Samsung that should change all the things people want changed. The year 2014 will see a new iPhone design, and we'll probably see a Moto X successor that hopefully sees a better price tag. Could we see a Pebble 2? It's possible!
More than anything, though, I want to see the ideas that seemed so new this year to become standard, and better, next year. Curved displays? Yep, let's make them better and not-so-expensive or gimmicky.
I want to know what you're most excited about in 2014. Is it new devices for the wearable technology market? Thinner, lighter phones? What about (hopefully) improved battery life? Or better cameras and faster processors? Let me know!
