If a high-resolution display is at the top of your must-have smartphone feature list, then you may want to take a seat. LG Display announced tonight that it's created what it says is the world's first Quad HD AH-IPS display for smartphones. The screen measures in a 5.5 inches and features a resolution of 2560x1440, which works out to a total of 538 pixels per inch. LG goes on to tout that its Quad HD panel is 1.21mm thick with a 1.2mm bezel, two measurements that LG says make it the slimmest and narrowest screen around, and that the display is also capable of producing 430 nits of brightness.
Several high-end smartphones have come to market lately with 1920x1080 displays, but it looks like the manufacturers aren't planning to stop there. LG Display's new 5.5-inch 2560x1440 certainly sounds impressive, and even though most consumers would likely be content with a more conservative 720p display, I'm sure that there are some smartphone spec hounds that have already added LG's high-res panel to their must-have list. Unfortunately for them, LG Display hasn't said when its screen will be made available to device makers.
