It's now been a little over two months since Google officially acquired community-based mapping service Waze, and now that that awkward "getting to know you" phase is over, it looks like the two companies are ready to begin integrating their products.
Google announced today that the Google Maps apps for Android and iOS will now include real-time incident alerts concerning accidents, construction and more that've been reported by Waze users. The alerts will appear for users in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, U.K. and the U.S.
Google's own app isn't the only one benefitting from this newfound relationship. The company says that the Android and iOS versions of the Waze app will now include Google Search to help users find businesses and local addresses. Meanwhile, the Waze Map Editor has gained access to Google Street View and satellite imagery to aid in building out the maps and correcting any map errors that users find.
When it first announced its acquisition of Waze back in June, Google said that it planned to utilize both its own tech and data from Waze to improve the two apps, and so it's good to see that the fruits of this new relationship are now making their way to users. It's not yet clear what Google has planned next for Waze, but the company does promise that it'll "continue to bring together the best of Google Maps and Waze" in the future.
