Moto X set to arrive at AT&T on Aug. 23, pricing starts at $199.99

When Motorola announced the Moto X earlier this month, the only launch detail that the company shared was that its new flagship would arrive sometime in late August. Today we've got some much more precise release information for at least one U.S. carrier, though, as AT&T has come forward with its Moto X launch plans.

AT&T announced this morning that its version of the Moto X will be available starting Friday, Aug. 23. Pricing will be set at $199.99 for the 16GB Moto X and $249.99 for the more capacious 32GB version. Customers that'd like to take advantage of AT&T's Next upgrade program can expect to pony up $27 per month for the 16GB Moto X, while the 32GB model will set buyers back $32 per month.

AT&T also reiterated that its customers will be the first with access to Moto Maker, the online tool that allows consumers to customize their very own Moto X. Buyers will be able to select the colors of the front and back of their Moto X as well as the accent colors on the power button, volume keys and camera ring. Other customization options include the ability to place a message on the back of the phone, set a special power-on message and choose either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. Moto Maker customers will also receive a Motorola Skip unlocking accessory free with their purchase.

The Moto X features a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED display, Motorola's X8 Mobile Computing System (includes 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor), 10-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The flagship Moto X is the first device to be made by Motorola under the watch of parent company Google, and as a result, the X is a pretty big deal for Motorola. Now we just have to wait and see if a focus on software features and device customization can lure consumers away from the existing heavy-hitters in mobile.
