Always misplacing your keys or, even worse, your very expensive cell phone? Windows Phone users may soon have their very own Nokia-ized solution to that very problem, as a new report claims that the Finnish phone manufacturer is prepping a new product that will help users find their lost belongings.
According to sources speaking to The Verge, Nokia will soon introduce a new device called the "Treasure Tag" that utilizes NFC and Bluetooth 4.0, the latter of which Nokia is adding to its Windows Phones with the upcoming Lumia Amber update. Once a user gets hold of a Treasure Tag, the accessory can be paired with a Lumia Windows Phone over NFC and then attached to another item using an included loop. Nokia will also release an Treasure Tag app that will allow users to locate the Tag by displaying its location on a map that will include an augmented reality view.
It's also expected that the Treasure Tag will be capable of locating the phone that it's paired to. Users will reportedly be able to press a button on the Tag and, if the phone is nearby, it'll play a notification. The Treasure Tag has a battery that's expected to last for around six months. There's no word on how much Nokia will be charging for its lost item locator, but the Tag is expected to debut sometime in the coming weeks, after the company begins pushing its Lumia Amber update to users.
Misplacing an object like keys or a small wallet is a problem that most everyone encounters from time to time. Obviously the Treasure Tag isn't the only solution to that issue, but I'm sure that there are quite a few Windows Phone fans that will appreciate a Nokia-designed locator that's targeted at them. What will be interesting is seeing how Nokia decides to price its Treasure Tag and, of course, what color options it offers. After all, what Lumia fan wouldn't love a bright yellow Treasure Tag that matches their shiny new Lumia 1020?
