Kyocera Torque Android 4.1.2 update official, rollout begins on July 5

Ruggedized smartphones may be a little tougher than their non-rugged counterparts, but that doesn't mean that they don't enjoy a jelly bean from time to time just like everyone else. The Kyocera Torque is the perfect example of that, as Sprint has announced that the rugged Torque will begin receiving an update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on Friday, July 5. Besides a bump up to Android 4.1.2 and software version 2.000sp, the update will include enhancements to the Torque's power cycling, email sync and sleep mode. The full update changelog is as follows:

Kyocera Torque Software Update - 2.000sp

Enhancements/Fixes

  • Upgrade of the Google OS to Jellybean
  • International Call available
  • Power cycle
  • Email sync
  • Sleep mode

Since this is an update to Jelly Bean, all of you Torquers out there can also expect goodies like Google Now, expandable notifications and a smoother overall experience thanks to Project Butter. If you've got a Torque and want to get all of those features ASAP to better prepare the device for its next journey, you can check for the over the air update by heading into System Settings > System update > Update Kyocera Software. Just remember that the rollout isn't slated to begin until July 5, meaning that you and your Torque can squeeze in a bit more rock climbing, kayaking or whatever else ruggedized phones like to do in their free time.
