LG Optimus L Series II officially introduced ahead of Mobile World Congress [UPDATED]

It's now been nearly a year since LG took the wraps off of the first devices in its Optimus L Series of smartphones, and just as with many other handset lineups before it, that means that it's just about time for L Series to get an upgrade. That's exactly what LG has given us tonight with the official announcement of the Optimus L Series II lineup. These new models will be known as the Optimus L3 II, Optimus L5 II and Optimus L7 II, with the dual SIM flavor of the L7 II getting the honor of being the first of the bunch to launch with a debut in Russia this week.

LG says that the new Optimus L Series II models take the designs of the original models and add "a more refined touch" that includes features like Seamless Layout, Laser Cut Contour, Radiant Rear Design and Smart LED Lighting for the home button. Also included are features like QuickMemo, which allows users to compose handwritten notes, and Quick Button, which gives the user the option of programming a hotkey to perform any function that they'd like, such as opening the camera or QuickMemo apps. Here's what LG tells us to expect from the individual models in terms of raw specs:

  • Optimus L3 II: 3.2-inch 320x240 IPS display and 1,540mAh battery
  • Optimus L5 II: 4-inch 800x480 IPS display and 1,700mAh battery
  • Optimus L7 II: 4.3-inch 800x480 IPS display, 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8225 processor, 8-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, 4GB storage, microSD slot, 768MB RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 2,460mAh battery

The original Optimus L family of handsets has done pretty well for LG, racking up over 10 million sales to date. Because of this, it's no surprise that the company has put together another another pack of entry-level to mid-range Optimus L models to unleash upon the world. There's still a bit of information about the L Series II that's up in the air, like more detailed spec lists for the L3 II and L5 II, but I'm sure that LG will spill more details at Mobile World Congress. With all the teasing that LG has done as of late for MWC 2013, the firm likely has some other big announcements planned as well, so keep it locked to PhoneDog and we'll bring you all of the news from the Life's Good camp as soon as we get it.

UPDATE: As noted by Engadget, LG has also confirmed tonight that it's cooking up a version of its Optimus G Pro with a 5.5-inch full HD display. This model, which is a hair larger than the 5-inch full HD model that's already been announced for Japan, is apparently headed for South Korea. LG says that it'll reveal more information on the Optimus G Pro as it receives more "Likes" on its Facebook page right here, so we should be learning more about LG's plans for the 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro soon.
