HTC M4 and G2 rumored to be in the works alongside M7

The HTC M7 has become one of the more hotly-anticipated Android handsets thanks to a recent string of leaks, but today a new report has spilled the beans on a couple of other smartphones that HTC's got in the pipeline. According to an @evleaks post on Unwired View, HTC is prepping two devices codenamed "M4" and "G2." The M4 is a step down from the M7 in terms of specs, looking a bit like the equivalent of what the One S was to the One X last year. The M4 is said to include a 4.3-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 13-megapixel rear and 1.6-megapixel front cameras, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 4G LTE and a 1,700mAh battery. Android Jelly Bean is expected to come preloaded on the M4.

Moving down a step, the G2 appears to be a new entry-level offering (not this guy) from HTC. Expect this handset to offer a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, 1GHz processor and 5-megapixel rear camera. Buried inside the G2 is 512MB RAM, 4GB of built-in storage, a microSD slot for additional memory and a 1,400mAh battery. The G2's preinstalled version of Android is said to be a step down from the M4 just like the rest of the handset, with Ice Cream Sandwich coming on the device instead of Jelly Bean.

It's not entirely surprising to learn that HTC is cooking up a pair of lower-end compliments to the upcoming M7, as the company did something similar when it unveiled its initial batch of One series smartphones last year. If these rumored specs hold true, the M4 could be a nice device for folks that want a smaller-screened Android smartphone thanks to its 4.3-inch 720p display, which is a step up from the 4.3-inch 960x540 screen found on the One S. Today's report claims that the M7 will actually launch "shortly after its announcement," with both the M4 and G2 expected in the spring. Looks like it may not be long before the rumors can come to an end and we can finally spend some quality time getting to know HTC's latest.
