Nokia Laser tipped as high-end Lumia handset that's headed to Verizon

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop teased last month that his company "is planning a lot of exciting things with Verizon," and now we've gotten some details on just what one of those exciting things might be. A new report from The Verge cites Verizon sources that say that Nokia is prepping a device codenamed "Laser" that will be released on Verizon later this year. The flagship handset is said to be a variant of the Lumia 920 that will feature specs similar to those found on that model, though no specific spec details for the Laser are mentioned. It does sound like there will be quite a marketing push behind the Laser, though, as Verizon is expected to make it a flagship product and that Microsoft will be investing some cash to help promote it.

Verizon launched its first Nokia-made Windows Phone smartphone last year with the Lumia 822. However, the 822's fairly mid-range spec list left many Big Red customers that were hungry for a Lumia 920-caliber product unsatisfied. It sounds like the Laser could be the device that a lot of Windows Phone fans Windows Phans on Verizon have been waiting for, and it'll be interesting to see how the device differs from the Lumia 920. There's no word yet on when the Laser will be launch, but the new handset will reportedly be introduced alongside Nokia's aluminum-clad Catwalk phone.
