Looks like Samsung Galaxy S II owners in Spain are waking up to a Jelly Bean treat this morning. According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung has begun pushing an Android 4.1.2 update to the international (GT-I9100) Galaxy S II model, with Spain being the first lucky country to get a taste of the goods. One of the biggest changes that the update brings is Samsung's TouchWiz Nature UX, which brings the look and feel of the software found on the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II to Samsung's aging Galaxy S II. Users will also be getting some other newer TouchWiz goodies like Smart Stay, Pop-Up Play, new widgets and a tweaked notification shade with different toggles.
Along with those TouchWiz-specific enhancements, Galaxy S II owners will be gaining several new features that have been packed into Jelly Bean by Google. Project Butter should help to make getting around the Galaxy S II a smoother experience, and users will also be able to call up Google Now and its information cards to get details related to things like the weather, sports scores and navigation.
It appears that unlocked I9100 Galaxy S II models in Spain are the only ones being treated to Jelly Bean so far, but the update should start making its way to other countries in the coming weeks. We haven't heard much from the U.S. carriers about their plans for a Galaxy S II Jelly Bean update, so for now it's unclear when (or if) devices like the Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy S II Skyrocket and the AT&T and T-Mobile Galaxy S II models will be updated to Android 4.1. Here's to hoping that, with the big sales numbers that the S II has put up and the fact that the international model is now being updated, the U.S. carrier-branded models will eventually get fed some Jelly Bean as well.
