Remember the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet that we heard rumblings about last week? Well, it looks like that may not be the only new Android slate that Samsung's got up its sleeve, as a new report from SamMobile claims that the company is planning to introduce a handful of new tablets in the coming months. Here's what we can expect, according to the site's "Korean insider":
- Santos: This is said to be the codename for Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 3 tablets. As with the two previous Galaxy Tab generations, this new pair of Tabs will come in 7-inch and 10.1-inch screen sizes. We're also told to expect 5-megapixel cameras and the usual Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + 3G variants. No other specs are known right now, but the model numbers for these devices are said to be GT-P3200, GT-P3210, GT-P5200 and GT-P5210.
- Kona: This is the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. As we noted before, the device is said to feature an 8-inch 1280x800 LCD display, 5-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front cameras, 2GB RAM, 16GB/32GB storage, microSD slot and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. SamMobile also says that the Note 8.0 will be powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor. Previously it was speculated that the Note 8.0 would debut at Mobile World Congress next month, and now that tidbit of news has apparently been confirmed by Samsung Mobile head J.K. Shin, who told Korean publication iNews24 that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be introduced at MWC.
- Roma: This device is a bit of a mystery. It's described as a high-end tablet with a 5-megapixel camera and either 16GB or 32GB of storage, but that's about all that's currently known about its specs. The Roma's model number is said to be GT-P8200.
The source of today's report also claims that Samsung is planning to introduce its new tablets in white first, with the Santos and Roma units all expected to debut sometime in 2013. It's certainly possible that Samsung could make MWC a tablet blowout and introduce the Note 8.0 and some other models at the big Barcelona show. Considering that both the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 were introduced in February of 2012, it's certainly possible that Samsung could follow a yearly cycle and introduce its new Galaxy Tab 3 units next month along with the Note 8.0.
