Just two days after details of Sprint's new "Sprint As You Go" prepaid service leaked out for all to see, Hesse and Co. have confirmed the information in that report. FierceWireless has gotten word from Sprint that the service will indeed be launching on Jan. 25 and that it will offer unlimited talk, text and unthrottled data plans. Sprint As You Go will launch with four phones, including two feature phones and two smartphones, the latter of which will be the LG Optimus Elite priced at $150 and the Samsung Victory priced at $250. Sprint also confirmed that the Samsung Victory, which is an LTE-capable handset on Sprint's regular contract service, will have access to LTE service on the prepaid Sprint As You Go service as well.
The rumored plan offerings of Sprint As You Go have also been confirmed, meaning that feature phone customers will pay $50 per month and smartphone users will need to pony up $70 each month. For that hard-earned cash, customers will get unlimited minutes, messaging and unthrottled data, along with 1xRTT data roaming. Sprint As You Go will not support EV-DO roaming or premium features like mobile hotspot.
A Sprint spokesperson says that Sprint As You Go will only be available at the carrier's branded stores and that the service is meant for people with "an affinity for the Sprint brand" and a desire to avoid contracts. Sprint's existing prepaid brands Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile (and others) will continue on, and while their smartphone plans are cheaper than Sprint As You Go's, they'll also throttle users' speeds after 2.5GB of usage in a month. Taking that into consideration, it looks like Sprint As You Go may be the ideal choice for prepaid customers with an insatiable appetite for megabytes.
