Right on schedule, the Jelly Bean update for U.S. Cellular's flavor of the Samsung Galaxy S III is now available. The carrier announced today on its official Facebook page that Galaxy S III owners can now update to Android 4.1.1, which will bump the device up to software version LK5. Included in the update are the usual Jelly Bean goodies like Google now and its information cards, expandable notifications, Project Butter, and widgets that can automatically make room for themselves when being placed on a home screen by moving other items out of the way.
U.S. Cellular customers with a Galaxy S III have a few different options when it comes time to update to Android 4.1.1. The easiest method is the over the air update, which can be achieved by connecting to Wi-Fi and then going into Settings > About Device > Software update on the Galaxy S III. Customers can also connect their Galaxy S III to their computer with a USB cable and install the update using Samsung's Simple Upgrade Tool. The instructions and necessary downloads for that method can be found right here. Finally, Galaxy S III owners can visit a U.S. Cellular store with a tech center to obtain help with the update process.
With today's rollout, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is now available as an update for all five of the U.S. carrier variants that were announced in early June. It's not yet clear when the recently-released MetroPCS and Cricket versions of the Galaxy S III will get their own tastes of Jelly Bean, but Samsung appears to be making good progress in its Android 4.1 update process for the Galaxy S III, and it's good to see that the first five carrier models have all been updated before the end of the year.
