It's been a little over a year since NVIDIA first introduced us to its Tegra 3 processor, so there are likely some chip hounds out there hungry for whatever the company has planned next. That's exactly what we may be looking at in the slide up above, as Chiphell has shared a document detailing what may be the Tegra 4. Carrying the codename "Wayne," the chip purportedly features the same 4-PLUS-1 layout found on the Tegra 3, with four main cores and a fifth companion core for saving on battery life. We're also told to expect 20 times the graphics horsepower of the Tegra 2 and six times that of the Tegra 3 thanks to a 72-core graphics setup. The doc goes on to list USB 3.0, 28nm process and 2560x1600 resolution support as other highlights.
While we'll have to wait to judge the Tegra 4's performance until it's actually, you know, made official and starts appearing in phones, this leaked slide isn't afraid to talk up the new chip, describing it as being "designed for super phones." Exactly when a launch might happen is still a mystery for now, but previous roadmaps have the Wayne marked in late 2012 and early 2013, so an announcement from NVIDIA some time in the next few months is certainly a possibility.
