Verizon earlier this year released a version of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with 4G LTE connectivity, and now the carrier has begun offering that device's larger sibling as well. Today Verizon announced that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with LTE is now available. Details on the device's availability are light in Verizon's announcement, but its website lists the Tab 2 10.1 as being an online-only device that's priced at $499.99 full retail. The Tab 2 10.1 is listed as shipping "by 11/26."
Along with built-in 4G LTE connectivity, Verizon's flavor of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 features a 10.1-inch 1280x800 display, 3.2-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It also includes 8GB of built-in storage and a microSD card slot for more memory.
Verizon also recently announced that it has expanded its 4G LTE coverage in several parts of New York state. Included in the list of expanded locations are the areas of Poughkeepsie, Binghamton and Utica-Rome. The full list of expanded locales is as follows:
- Binghamton, N.Y. (new cell sites in Binghamton and Apalachin)
- Elmira-Corning, N.Y. (new cell sites in Corning and Pine City)
- Greene County, N.Y. (new cell site in Cairo)
- Middletown, N.Y. (new cell sites in Middletown, Livingston Manor, New Windsor, Port Jervis area and Walkill)
- New York’s Capital Region (new cell sites in Albany, Charlton, Cobleskill, Duanesburg, Hagaman, Petersburg Junction, Pittstown, Rotterdam, Schaghticoke, Sharon Springs (two sites), Stillwater and West Sand Lake)
- Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (new cell sites in Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Clinton Corners, Hopewell Junction, Kingston and West Hurley)
- Utica-Rome, N.Y. (new cell sites in Boonville, Cleveland, Frankfort, Herkimer, Ilion, Marcy, Propsect, Rochfiled Springs, Steuben and Whitesboro)
That's a pretty sizable list of expanded markets, and considering that more and more data is being consumed over LTE (Verizon recently said that 35 percent of its data traffic goes over LTE), it's good to see the carrier expanding its LTE coverage. As for Verizon's new tablet, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 already made its way to the other big three U.S. carriers in recent weeks, so it's not a surprise to see Big Red add the slate to its shelves as well.
