Just over a month ago, HTC announced the J Butterfly, a smartphone with a 5-inch 1080p S-LCD3 display, for the Japanese market. For months, though, there have been rumors that the 5-inch smartphone – not phablet, HTC made it very clear that it's all smartphone and no parts tablet – would come to Verizon's LTE network here in the States. And today, Verizon and HTC teamed up to announce their latest collaboration, the DROID DNA.
Inside, the DNA has a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, 2GB RAM, 16GB built-in storage, a 2,020mAh battery and 8-megapixel camera with ImageSense technology and ImageChip (the same optics as the One X). The display, though, is the prime subject of this device. At 5-inches diagonal and 1080p resolution, it's rated at 440 pixels per inch, far beyond anything else in the smartphone category.
The DROID DNA is available for pre-order starting today and will go on sale starting November 21 for $199 with a two-year agreement. It packs a powerful punch in a relatively small package.
