Xbox Surface gaming tablet with 7-inch screen rumored to be in the works at Microsoft

Microsoft took some folks by surprise when it introduced its 10.6-inch Surface tablets earlier this year, but a new report suggests that the Redmond firm isn't stopping its slate-building efforts there. Sources speaking to The Verge have claimed that Microsoft is prepping an "Xbox Surface" tablet that will feature a 7-inch display along with gaming-friendly "high-bandwidth RAM" and ARM processor, though it's said that the specs could be altered in such a way to include an Intel system on a chip instead. The device is expected to run on a custom Windows kernel rather than full-on Windows, and while basic tablet functionality could be included, the focus of the Xbox Surface is gaming.

With the likes of the Kindle Fire, Nexus 7 and iPad mini, we've seen a bit of a surge in the 7-inch tablet market as of late, and now it looks like Microsoft wants to join in on the fun. With the popularity of the Xbox itself and the Xbox brand, it makes sense to see Microsoft continue to take advantage of the Xbox name by applying it to a tablet like it did with its music service. With the Xbox branding and a focus on gaming, it'll be interesting to see just how well a 7-inch Xbox Surface tablet will sell if it does indeed see the light of day. Would any of you be interested in an Xbox Surface gaming tablet?
