Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon officially introduced [UPDATED]

Nokia today officially announced the Lumia 822 for Verizon, making it the first Nokia-made Windows Phone device to be introduced for the carrier. The Lumia 822 touts 8-megapixel rear and 1.2-megapixel front cameras as well as exchangeable shells, which feature support for wireless charging. There's also several bits of software that will come with the Lumia 822, like Nokia Drive+ for turn-by-turn navigation, Nokia City Lens that adds augmented reality to Nokia Maps, and Nokia Music to meet a user's streaming music needs.

As far as pricing and availability goes, both Nokia and Verizon are staying quiet for now. Also missing as of this writing are official images of the device, though several leaks have already come forward to offer a peek at what the phone might look like. Considering that this is only the second Windows Phone to be added to Verizon's roster, though, I'm sure that there are many folks on Big Red that are just happy to hear the news that another device powered by Microsoft's mobile OS is headed their way. UPDATE: Nokia's website has revealed a couple more tidbits about the Lumia 822. The company says that the Lumia 822 will be priced at $99.99 with a two-year contract and that the grey model will be "available in limited quantities" and will only be made available online. As far as a launch date goes, Nokia only says that the Lumia 822 is "coming soon. More spec details of the Lumia 822 have also been revealed:

  • 4.3-inch 800x480 AMOLED display
  • 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor
  • 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD slot (accepts up to 64GB cards)
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • 1,800mAh battery

UPDATE 2: Verizon has announced that the Lumia 822 will be launching by Thanksgiving for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract.
