Google's Nexus 7 tablet is currently only available with Wi-Fi connectivity, but if a new report is to be believed, the Jelly Bean-powered slate may soon come in a 3G-flavored version. A "very well-placed insider" speaking to MoDaCo claims that ASUS is busy working on a 3G version of the Nexus 7, with production of the rumored device said to be ramping up now in preparation for a launch that's said to be six weeks away. Besides the addition of 3G connectivity, this new Nexus 7 variant is said to be unchanged from the current model.
While the Wi-Fi-only Nexus 7 can gain Internet connectivity on the go by hooking it up to a mobile hotspot, I'm sure that there are several folks out there that'd like the option of having a Nexus 7 with its own 3G connection. There's no word yet on how much interested customers may have to pay for such a device, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the 3G-enabled Nexus 7 command a bit of a premium compared to its Wi-Fi-only brother. At least folks that've been jonesing for a 3G Nexus 7 can now begin saving up some cash in case the device does indeed arrive in six weeks.
